May 2015 Smooth Collie Club of GB Open Show - 1st Open Dog, Best Dog, Best Opposite Sex in Breed. Judge Simon Burton

The second class winner by Ch Sandcastles True Topic and now a worthy title holder, this 6 years tri male was my BD last time I judged Smooths. Not a flashy dog but so correct; his proportions, flow of outline and excellent angulation make him a Smooth to be appreciated for his many virtues. He has a quality head shape with good length, planes and fill of muzzle, although I preferred the beautiful eye shape and the tighter ear set of 2. Has enough length of neck which flows into a textbook front, a firm topline with the correct rise over the loin, a gentle sweep to the tail and with the benefit of full maturity in body he looked the finished article today. On move his excellent, balanced angulation really shows with easy reach in front, effortless drive from the rear and he looks like he could go on for ever. In good, weather resistant coat and in peak condition, his handler always had him looking right and he was a willing and attentive showman. It was a winning performance and I could find nothing to beat him in the males and so he took a well deserved BD & BOS. In the challenge for RBOB, I preferred his sister’s eye and expression and he just lost the edge on his concentration with a substitute handler

May 2015 Bath Ch Show - 1st Open Dog Judge Margaret Wildman

Tri male of 6 years. Beautifully balanced boy that was so well put together with lovely wedge shaped headpiece with a well filled foreface, beautiful obliquely set eyes with lovely sweet expression, clean cheeks, nice flat skull, level planes & good mouth with correct dentition & bite. He had a good neck that was let into shoulders that sat back at the correct angle & muscular straight front legs down to firm pasterns & well padded oval feet. This boy had a super shapely well covered frame with body somewhat longer than high & his back was firm & level. He had a deep chest & well sprung ribs that were evenly spaced back to loin giving him the shape of body we look for in this breed when viewed from above & his tailset & carriage were correct. I liked his rearquarters & muscular thighs, correct conformation & superb movement & this boy had attitude in the ring. He asked for the top spot & I had no hesitation in giving it. Pleased to award him BD & BOB

May 2015 Birmingham National Ch Show - 1st Open Dog & Reserve Dog CC Judge Pat Lister.

liked his head balance, nice eye, just wish he would use his ears naturally, enough bone, balanced conformation, moved positively with good tail carriage. Res CC

Another upstanding tri-colour, head very good with a correct stop and correctly tipped ears, good strong neck and well laid back shoulders. Outline is good with a good turn of stifle. Once on the move was pleasing to watch, very close call with winner. RBD.

June 2013 British Collie Open Show - Judge : Marianne Benton, 2nd Open Dog, Reserve Best Dog

I love this young tri, Has a nice enough head, well placed stop, would prefer darker eye. I would also prefer tighter ear carriage. Scores on his overall body shape. Well angulated in both front and rear, which enables him to move with real stride and purpose. Love his enthusiasm and showmanship, but when push came to shove I just preferred the head of my BD. Ran him close though. RBD

May  2013 Yorkshire Collie Open Show - Judge : Simon Burton, 1st Open Dog and Best Dog

Class with two quality dogs of differing types 1. Hutchings Collidach Molloney Ta Tu You. Maturity suits this 4 year old tri. Now coming to his best, he was on top form today. What I love about him is his overall correctness; his proportions, flow of outline and harmonious angulation. Not the flashy markings of 2 to aid him but as an example of a well made Smooth male he should rightly be appreciated. He has a quality head shape with good length, planes, fill of muzzle and scored over 2 with a tighter lip line and being less deep through the skull, though 2 has a beautiful eye shape and the tighter ear set. Has enough length of neck which flows into a wonderful front with textbook angulation and good bone and feet which was matched at the rear - he’s the sort you can’t wait to see move. Holds a firm topline with the correct rise over the loin, a gentle sweep to the tail and coupled with the full maturity in body which, as might be expected, the younger 2 does not yet have, he was a hard act to beat. And then he moves – easy smooth reach in front, effortless drive from the rear and he could go on for ever. In good weather resistant coat and condition, handled to his advantage, he was an attentive showman and fully deserved to win this class today. BD

A superbly balanced tri whose markings do not help him one bit.  Super front and rear angulations and in great hard condition giving him a free easy movement and he really drives from his short strong hocks. Another who can really cover the ground with very little effort. He has a very nice head with correct stop and nice eye and expression

not the biggest of tris but is quite well balanced, has length to his head & is fairly shallow through, clean neck & shoulders, deep well sprung ribs, firm loin & gentle slope to croup giving good tailset, good rear definition, moves out with ease covering ground well. RBD.

SKC 2011 - Michael Gaunt - 1st Limit Dog & CC doing the Double with his sister Mouse

tri litter brother to Fay Mouse & all of her critique applies to him. He is a masculine version of her. I think that perhaps where he scores on her is he has a slightly better body length, but in the BOB he was not being handled by his owner, his sister was giving that little bit more

******

Lancashire & Cheshire Collie 2011 - Nick Smith - 1st Limit Dog & Reserve CC

Another quality tri. Caught my eye for his overall shape and balance. Head handled well but still needing to clean which I am sure will come with age. Strong neck and balanced throughout. Nice level  top line and good turn of stifle. Presentation was very good and he was handled to perfection and his movement was first class. I will follow his career with interest. RDCC

Well balanced head, well filled flat skull, moulding in foreface, correct stop with parallel planes, well placed eye, good ears, I would like to see a little more strength in underjaw, he has a balanced outline good front, neck & shoulder, and well muscled hindquarters, moved quite well, see he is sired by the B.O.B. winner, a most promising youngster. Quality tricolour with good clean wedge head of correct length, well placed stop and eye. Well angulated front and rear, good length of back and tail, moved well, covering the ground with ease. RCC and Best Puppy - Delia Moore

RBPIS - The Smooth, also approaching 12 months, a son of the day's BIS, has much going for him & he, too, will surely reach the top. Nice for Faye as she moves True Topic for the Haywards & this lad is also very animated. One of the best Smooth puppies I have seen in recent years, he exudes energy. Lovely head to handle with well placed, intelligent eye & expression, very good overall conformation, strongly made throughout, he ran the Rough to the wire but, on the day, the Rough just had the overall edge.
